Colorado\u2019s Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/sb23-016\"><strong>Governor Jared Polis signed legislation<\/strong><\/a> this month directing the relevant state agencies to move forward with an application to gain primacy for Class VI well permits.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>More than 70 applications are currently stuck in the approval queue at the EPA.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>Applications date back to 2020, but no CO2 injection sites have received approval.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>Wyoming &amp; North Dakota have primacy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/la\/louisiana-underground-injection-control-program-class-vi-primacy-proposed-rule\"><strong>Louisiana\u2019s application is moving forward<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>ClearPath estimates projects in the queue could capture up to 6 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide in Louisiana alone.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>PA, TX, WV, &amp; AZ are also moving towards primacy applications.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>What\u2019s clear:<\/strong> The International Energy Agency has said CCS is \u201cnecessary to meet national, regional and even corporate net zero goals.\u201d Moving primacy of regulations for Class VI wells to the states makes sense.
