\nBIPARTISAN SENATE ADVANCED NUCLEAR BLUEPRINT INTRODUCED<\/h1>\n
\nSenate Energy and Natural Resources Chairman Lisa Murkowski and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) introduced the Nuclear Energy Leadership Act,<\/span><\/strong><\/a> <\/span><\/strong>a bipartisan and comprehensive blueprint for bolstering the next-generation of the nation\u2019s largest source of reliable and carbon-free power. NELA is backed by 13 additional original cosponsors and a broad range of advanced nuclear advocates<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, including ClearPath Action.

\nNELA addresses the lack of aggressive milestones for government-led nuclear energy R&D and policy aimed at accelerating the commercialization of cutting-edge new American nuclear power technologies.

\nREPUBLICANS TOUT INNOVATION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE<\/h1>\n
\nSurrounding this week\u2019s failed Senate vote on the Green New Deal, Republicans took to the floor to highlight practical measure to address climate change and expand clean energy that could attract (and has already attracted) bipartisan backing.
\n
\n\u201cThere are some policies that both parties can support that I think can make a real difference in real time,\u201d Murkowski said Tuesday<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, ahead of the official NELA introduction the following day. \u201cWe\u2019re not in a situation, in a place, where we\u2019re doing nothing.\u201d
\n
\nLast Congress approved legislation expanding the 45Q carbon capture and 45J advanced nuclear incentives, increasing (and in some cases giving record) funding for DOE cleantech R&D, as well as spurring hydropower. \u201cThat was just last year in terms of those policies that we put in place that are moving us forward in the right direction,\u201d Murkowski said. \u201cIt is important for us around here to make sure that we don\u2019t distract from those pragmatic, practical solutions, that we don\u2019t amp the rhetoric up so high that we can\u2019t get ourselves to the place where we can work cooperatively, collaboratively, to get to these solutions.\u201d

\nSenate Environment and Public Works Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) also promised to work with Democrats to \u201cpass meaningful legislation,\u201d noting past and present bipartisan carbon capture and advanced nuclear work.

\nSen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) singled out the NET Power zero-emission natural gas demonstration project<\/span><\/strong><\/a> near Houston as an example that \u201cyou can be pro-energy, pro-innovation, pro-growth and pro-environment.\u201d

\nAlexander laid out his \u201cNew Manhattan Project for Clean Energy”<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, a five-year project with 10 \u201cgrand challenges\u201d that will \u201cuse American research and technology to put our country and our world firmly on the path for a cleaner cheaper energy.\u201d Among those 10 challenges include building one or more advanced nuclear reactors, more efficient and lower carbon natural gas combustion technologies, carbon capture (\u201cthe holy grail of clean energy\u201d), better and grid-scale batteries and doubling energy research funding for DOE\u2019s Office of Science and the 17 national labs. “This is a bold agenda and hopefully a bipartisan agenda,” Alexander said. His plan earned bipartisan praise<\/span><\/strong><\/a> from Coons and others at a DOE budget hearing in Alexander\u2019s subcommittee Wednesday.
