Tax credits for the technology will allow us to scale up carbon capture from natural gas technologies. That includes the revolutionary NetPower demo plant being built in La Porte, Texas and more technologies like the Century Gas Processing Plant that\u2019s already capturing 8.4 million tons of CO2 each year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"center\" style=\"margin-left:200px\">\n<div style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; max-width: 640px; max-height: 360px;\">\n<div class=\"video-container video-16x9\"><iframe id=\"youtube-IG96UzxumoA\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IG96UzxumoA?enablejsapi=1&amp;theme=light&amp;color=white&amp;rel=0&amp;controls=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;iv_load_policy=3&amp;widget_referrer=https:\/\/saperemarketing.com\/clearpath\/our-take\/carbon-capture-means-natural-gas\/&amp;origin=https:\/\/saperemarketing.com\/clearpath&amp;hide_related=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This technology protects our gas industry from whatever supercharged Clean Power Plan a future Democratic White House will inevitably throw at the power sector, while reducing emissions affordably now. But without a targeted policy lever (such as the 45Q tax credit extension currently being considered by Congress) to advance the technology before environmental regulations hit, the industry will be vulnerable. Every major industry player, from Exxon to Chevron to Shell, is modeling for some type of future carbon regulation. We have promising technologies that could be scaled up affordably, but they won\u2019t be developed fast enough on their own.<\/p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4026 size-full clearpath-lightbox-img lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/saperemarketing.com\/clearpath\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2018\/01\/3ab176ff0bbaa687cd3c4c091f428330-carbon-vaccuum2-01.jpg\" alt=\"carbon-vaccuum-01\" width=\"500\" height=\"227\" data-share-key=\"2pnckh4irg\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 500px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 500\/227;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moody\u2019s is already ringing alarm bells for coal, releasing a report succinctly concluding that U.S. coal production \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will continue sharp secular decline without carbon capture and storage.\u201c<\/span> <sup><a id=\"cite-1\" class=\"sourceref\" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"#source-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon capture can avoid this decline for coal, while ensuring that our immense natural gas&nbsp;reserves are never imperiled like coal is today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If our country doesn\u2019t invest now in the technologies of the future,&nbsp;we will lose our energy dominance. It will hurt our exports and reduce the geopolitical strength we currently have in the liquefied natural gas market.
